Ryan Chun is currently a Senior attending McLean High School. He currently studies with Jing Qiao (first violinist of the NSO), and is a violinist whose journey through the classical music world has been defined by dedication and a passion for both performance and community engagement.

During his time at the Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School for Visual and Performing Arts, Ryan took on the roles of concertmaster and conductor, bringing his expertise to elevate the orchestral experience for both the symphonic orchestra and string ensemble. Outside of formal education, Ryan has volunteered his time with Music Buddies, where he shares his knowledge of the violin with elementary school students, using the Suzuki method as a foundation for their musical development. His commitment to community service extends further through his involvement with the McLean Youth Harmony and Young Artist Music Society (YAMS), where he has performed at local nursing homes, spreading joy and connection through his music.

Ryan has also won competitions such as the U.S. Army Orchestra Young Artist Competition, the American Youth Philharmonic Concerto Competition, Charleston International, and Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition. He has performed as the soloist with the U.S. Army Orchestra and the American Youth Philharmonic. He is also a recipient of the MacDonald Performing Arts Scholarship.

As a member of the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras, Ryan has held key leadership positions, including assistant concertmaster and principal second violin. In these roles, he has played an integral part in shaping the ensemble’s sound and fostering a culture of excellence among his peers.
